G7 Brain Economy Summit
On June 14, 2025, Calgary hosted the in-person capstone of the G7 Canada Brain Economy Summit at the BMO Centre. A standout event in Canada’s G7 Presidency. This global initiative reframed brain health and brain skills, together known as “brain capital”—as critical economic resources essential for productivity, resilience, and innovation across sectors.
The Summit was structured to blend policy-focused discussions, personal narratives, and an Innovation Showcase, all under the overarching goal of making brain health a cross-sectoral priority. This spanned business, labor, science, civil society, youth, and women’s groups.
A highlight of the day was the panel “Accelerating the Canadian Brain Economy Transition.” Dr. Valerie Taylor, Chair of Psychiatry at the University of Calgary, Member of the Hotchkiss Brain Institute, and Departmental Science Advisor for Health Canada joined other experts to discuss how Canada can speed up its shift to a brain-powered economy.
Her perspective bridged science, health, and policy, showing how research and evidence can shape decisions that benefit both people and the economy.
